Children or legal dependents of Holland employees who are full-time students are eligible and may receive one of many $1500 Scholarships for the 2024 -2025 school year.
Qualifications
- Minimum current GPA of 2.5 out of 4.0
- Graduating high school senior or current post-high school student
- Must be the child or a legal dependent of a full-time Holland employee
- Must be enrolled in an accredited post-high school education program for the fall of 2024

- One 300 – 500 word essay: Describe an individual in your life who served as a role model, who you feel made a difference and how they influenced your view of what it means to be a leader or How will your future education prepare you to serve as a leader in your community field?
- Be specific in describing your educational, personal & career goals.

The NAMRC is now accepting applications for its 2024 Scholarship Program! The deadline for submitting applications will be Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
The NAMRC is dedicated to providing higher-education tuition assistance to the children or grandchildren of current NAMRC dues paying members.
Award Details: Scholarship funds in the following amounts are sent directly to the student winners at the beginning of the next term of study.
- Platinum Award – $7,000.00 (1 Applicant will be rewarded with Platinum)
- Gold Award – $4,000.00 (2 Applicants will be rewarded with Gold)
Eligibility: Applicants must meet these qualifications to be eligible for the NAMRC Scholarships
- Must be a son, daughter, grandson or granddaughter of a current dues paying member of the NAMRC.
- Must be enrolled at the time of applications as a full time college student at an accredited two-year college offering an Associate’s degree, an accredited four-year college or university offering a Bachelor’s degree or a recent high school graduate enrolling at one of the institutions mentioned above.
Applicants should review all materials before submitting applications. Any applications deemed incomplete will not be graded or considered eligible for an award.
Application: Applicants must submit the following items in one PDF
- Completed Application
- Reference Letter on the Member Company Letterhead
- Office School Transcript
- Essay on the following topic with a 500-word limit: “How have advancements in modern technologies enhanced the performance and reliability of railroad engineering?”

The League of Railway Women (LRW) is proudly investing in the railway community by supporting the pursuit of higher education through its annual scholarships. The application deadline for all three scholarships is June 28th, 2024.
- The Sue Black Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by The Greenbrier Companies, will award $5,000 USD to a person pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree in the rail industry and is in financial need.
- The Connie Sumara Memorial Scholarship, valued at $5,000 USD, will be awarded to a woman pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree and seeking to further her career in the rail industry. This scholarship honors the memory of former LRW President Connie Sumara, an LRW founder and longest-serving president.
- The Future of Railroading Scholarship, valued at $3,000 USD, will be awarded to a student pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree with an interest in supporting the rail industry.
The Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association (REMSA) is pleased to announce the availability of two undergraduate scholarships for tuition assistance. This year REMSA is offering one (1) $6,000 Chairman’s Scholarship and one (1) individual scholarship at $4,000.
The REMSA 2024 Undergraduate Scholarship is now open for applications! The deadline to apply is Friday, July 19th, 2024.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS
To apply for this scholarship, all materials listed below must be submitted to the REMSA Scholarship Committee:
- A completed Application for Undergraduate Scholarship Program, submitted electronically.
- A letter written on official REMSA member company stationery (or emailed directly from a company representative) confirming REMSA sponsorship of the application and stating the relationship of the member company employee to you, e.g., employee, father, mother, etc.
- An essay, 500 words or less, addressing the following:
As the world continues to integrate more Artificial Intelligence (AI) into our everyday lives, it is also finding its way into freight rail and passenger services. How can railroads capitalize on AI advances? What are the opportunities and what could be the risks? Please focus your answer on either freight railroads or passenger rail (your choice)*All applicants should submit essays written solely by the participant, and submission of essays that have been generated, in whole or in part by artificial intelligence (AI) or any content creation system will be disqualified. - A personal narrative essay.
- An official transcript from all schools attended, including high school and each college attended indicating all college-level work completed through January 31st of the year the application is made. The transcript(s) should list courses taken or in which currently enrolled. Previous scholarship winners and applicants entering their junior and senior year in college are not required to provide high school transcripts. Incoming freshmen must provide their high school transcripts along with support of classes in which he/she is enrolled in the coming semester.
- Two letters of recommendation. One letter must be from a faculty member at the college in which you are currently enrolled (incoming freshmen may submit a letter from a high school faculty member). The second reference may include another faculty member, your department head, current or former employer, REMSA member or other responsible person. Emails must come directly from reference

New in 2023: The NRC expanded its scholarship program to include the following two changes:
- Employees of NRC member companies are now eligible to apply for NRC scholarships. This expansion means that the NRC Scholarship Program is open to employees of member companies, their children and grandchildren.
- The NRC has added one scholarship for trade school students. This addition means the program will offer a total of four scholarships: one trade-school scholarship and three undergraduate scholarships.
The NRC awards scholarships each year to provide higher-education and trade-school tuition assistance for children or grandchildren of employees of NRC member companies. The scholarships were established by NRC members to honor the memory of two former NRC members –Vinnie Vaccarello (Co-President of All Railroad Services Corp.) and Patsy Crisafi (Executive Vice President of Roadway Worker Training, Inc.) – who were killed in a small plane crash. Since 2013, the NRC has awarded more than $150,000 in scholarships to eligible students.

Undergraduate Scholarships:
- First-place award of $12,000
- Second-place award of $6,000
- Third place award of $3,000
Trade-School Scholarship
- One $3,500 scholarship for a trade-school student
Eligibility – Applicants must meet these qualifications to be eligible for the scholarships:
- Be a full-time employee of an NRC member company (new this year) or a daughter, son, granddaughter or grandson of a current employee of an NRC member company.
- Be enrolled at the time of application as a full-time college student at an accredited two-year college offering an associate’s degree or an accredited four-year college or university offering a bachelor’s degree or a trade school, or a recent high school graduate enrolling at one of the institutions mentioned above.
- Must be enrolled at a qualified school for a full year following receipt of the award.
- Previous NRC Scholarship winners are eligible to apply for a scholarship if they still meet the requirements noted above.
Applications – Applicants should review all materials before submitting applications. Any application deemed incomplete will not be graded or considered eligible for an award.
- Application – Applicants must submit the following items in one pdf: 1) completed application, 2) reference letter on the member company letterhead, 3) office school transcript, 4) Essay that is 500 words or less. The topic will be announced during the second quarter of 2024.
