Women of Holland

February 28, 2026

In celebration of Women’s History Month, we’re proud to feature some of the women at Holland who keep our operations running seamlessly. Learn more below about how they became a part of the railroad industry, their day-to-day focus at Holland, and what it means to them to be a woman in this industry.

Karen Bainbridge – Sr. Director of Lean & Continuous Improvement

How did you start in the railroad industry? “I started as the receptionist at Holland, answering phones, greeting guests and helping different support departments with administrative workloads while we moved our ERP system from AS400 to IFS.”

How do you support our products and services at Holland? “In my current role, I work across all business units and support teams, with a primary focus on helping teams align around Goal Deployment strategies and Continuous Improvement priorities. Most of my RR career has been spent supporting Maintenance of Way operations through business management, system implementations, new business integration, customer service, and process improvement initiatives.”

What does it mean to you to be a woman in the rail industry? “To me, being a woman in the rail industry means contributing to meaningful progress in an industry that has evolved to value diverse perspectives and experiences.”

Taisha Poulin – National Sales Manager

How did you start in the railroad industry?  “I came into the railroad industry somewhat unexpectedly. My background is in relationship-driven roles, and I was drawn to rail because it’s an industry built on trust, reliability, and long-term partnerships. Early on, I realized rail isn’t just about steel and machines, it’s about people, safety, and doing things the right way, even when no one is watching. Once I understood the scale of impact rail has on communities and economies, I was hooked. What started as a job quickly turned into a career I genuinely believe in.”

How do you support our products and services at Holland? “As the National Sales Manager at Holland, I’m responsible for the strategic oversight and growth of our flash-butt welding, track geometry services, and the advancement of new technologies across the rail industry .A key part of my role is leading the commercialization and adoption of innovative solutions, including our Holland Automated Manganese Repair (HAMR) technology for frog repair, as well as our Argus Track Inspector technology. These solutions are designed to improve safety, extend asset life, and drive operational efficiency for our customers. I work closely with Class I railways, CN and CPKC, as well as transit authorities, short lines, and contractors to ensure our services and technologies align with their operational, safety, and long-term capital strategies. Beyond sales, my focus is on building trusted partnerships and helping customers successfully integrate both proven and emerging technologies into their maintenance programs.”

What does it mean to you to be a woman in the rail industry? “Being a woman in the rail industry means showing up authentically in a space that hasn’t always been inclusive, and helping shift that culture simply by being present, capable, and consistent. Early in my career, I learned that credibility in rail is earned through knowledge, follow-through, and respect, not by trying to fit a stereotype. I see it as both a responsibility and an opportunity: to advocate for collaboration, to lead with integrity, and to make the industry more welcoming for the next generation of women. I’m proud to work in rail, and even more proud to contribute to an industry that’s evolving, where diverse perspectives make us safer, stronger, and better.”

Amy Van Meter – VP of Continuous Improvement

I want to help build an environment that creates more opportunity for women in the rail industry.”
